I decided that that I want to keep a quick reference of my 10 favorite blog posts from this blog. It wasn’t easy to pick out just 10 out of all the ones that I have done since November 14, 2009, but I chose the below 10 and will update this list every so often to include new entries that I like more than the ones below.

Why have I decided to create a blog named Resource Room 220. It is pretty simple actually, I am a Special Education Teacher, who’s classroom number is 220. As for using Resource Room – I dislike many of the terms/acronyms like SPED or SPECED or other abbreviations used by others for Special Education programs. They are usually used in less [...]
2. IEPs – WHAT A WASTE OF TIME
Posted on November 23, 2009 by resource220
My wife saw the title of this post and said “You are getting old and crotchety.”
I have found the SPED community online and in the blogosphere is much more in tune with Special Education law, why an IEP is important and what makes a quality IEP, whether they are parents, educators or other [...]
3. TEACHERS – WE ARE NOT POWERLESS
Posted on November 25, 2009 by resource220
Last night I participated in #edchat on Twitter as I have done on most Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M., since I returned to teaching. I love the discussion, but it is almost turning into “we squeak”.
What do I mean by “we squeak”? Almost every session that I have participated in seems to have [...]

Today I introduced my Paper Airplane Lesson Plan to my students. This is an activity that I usually do the first day or so of school as an introductory icebreaker device. This year I am using it as an introductory lesson to introduce the students to the virtues of Google Docs (our District just signed up for Google Apps and I am the first one to try it out – so I am extremely excited about that). [...]
5. I WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE – WILL YOU?
Posted on December 2, 2009 by resource220
I have been focusing more on generaleducation than special education lately, because we are all teachers first and our specialty second. I sometime think that we as teachers forget that.[...]

RANT ALERT – I will probably get myself in trouble but here goes…
With all due respect to:
- the President of the United States and his staff
- the Congress and their staffs
- the State Governors and their staffs (Maine for me)
- the State Boards of Education (Maine for me)
- the Teacher preparatory programs at the University/College levels
- the Educational Consultants
- the Corporations who sell educational products
- and everyone else who thinks that they have latest answer to the problems in our classrooms
JUST SHUT UP! [...]
7. INTERNET ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER
Posted on January 3, 2010 by resource220
I have been attempting to do school work and classroom planning to get a good handle on the direction that my class needs to go, this whole vacation. Instead most of my vacation I have found myself going down too many “rabbit holes”. These simple side jaunts down paths that are really interesting to me, but not what I need to get done. I find they become “time sucks” and before I realize it 2-3 hours have passed from me pursuing these interesting, but not related to what I originally went on the computer to do[...]

“Just a quick “who do I think I am to write this”. I have worked with at-risk youth since 1996, in the following positions: Assistant Family Teacher, Behavior Technician, Behavior Technician Team Leader (these all in a group home), Case Manager, Education Technician III and a Special Education Teacher. So while this is not an academic study or an “expert” discussing this topic, I do have a lot of practical day-to-day experience in the subject
9. ARE WE LEADERSHIP OR JUST AN ECHO CHAMBER
Posted on February 18, 2010 by resource220
I guess it comes down to whether we are an echo chamber or are we the leaders who are willing to provide the necessary leadership needed to improve education wherever we might be. It won’t be easy, but when is change ever easy?[...]
10. FOCUSING ON WORK
Posted on January 9, 2010 by resource220
In light of my last blog entry on Internet Attention Disorder, I significantly decreased the amount of time that I spent on blogging, using Facebook and following Twitter this week. I also choose not to click on too many links that sounded interesting, when I was on Twitter and just read through my Google Reader articles without following any links, unless it related to directly to what I am doing at work[...]
